I have read few documents available at http://www.mysql.com for setting the internationization at Server, Database, Table and Column level.

I want to set the whole Database server to support UTF8 character support.

On mysql.com site i found the below command to set UTF8 character set.

mysqld --with-charset=utf8

but it gave me an error message as:

mysqld: ERROR: unknown variable 'with-charset=utf8'

Then i tried with passing another command like:

mysqld --default-character-set=utf8

but it gave another error message as:

mysqld: Character set 'utf-8' is not a compiled character set and is not specified
in the 'C:\mysql\share\charsets\Index.xml' file

030610 17:34:38 Aborting

030610 17:34:38 mysqld: Shutdown Complete

and the utf8.xml file is not given with the 4.1.0 Alpha release...

Am i doing something wrong to set the encoding as utf8.

If any one knows how to set the server as UTF8 encoding character set, this will be a great help for me.

Post your answers ASAP.

Thank You,

three solutions :
1) google for a 4.x version compiled with utf8, or a patch, or a trick
2) downgrade to 3.23.56
3) wait for a 4.x version compiled with utf8
