Hello, my TV capture tool produces a MPEG-2 video for a movie (1h40). It is enormous (5,7 GB). Do I have any means to reduce its size (encode it to MPEG-4 ?) so that it shrinks to fit a CDR ? thanks |

| Hello, In fact you're in the same situation as if you ripped a DVD or produced a "MPG" video from your digital camera. The data flow from a DVD is MPEG-2 anyway. So the answer is probably to use the "standard" DivX;-) encoder that you have. There is a relatively new version of a tool I discovered recently, the so said Gordian Knot [the designer must be named Alexander ;-) ] that you can find here You can also use the classical VirtualDub, EasyDivX etc best regards |

| GordianKnot 2.26 latest on my xxx.mp2 file : error "unsupported file type" VirtualDub 1.6.11 latest on the same file : error "MPEG import filter : invalid pack at position 3 : marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream" YES YES YES it is an MPEG-2 stream, of course ! What are those tools useful for if they can't open an MPEG-2 stream ? F**CK |

| I found a nice piece of code able to convert correctly videos like that. Halas, it's not free and is unuseable at all (watermarking in the middle of the video) when not registered (35 U$D if I'm not mistaken) interesting, but expensive there must be an open source solution somewhere, but apparently nobody knows why you can't open your MPEG-2 strea files with the nice tools first suggested |
