Databases :: MySql :: mysql and cpu time

Hello, I am running a database driven site using jsp and mysql 3.22.24 on solaris 2.6 and I'm wondering if the following statistics provide any insight as to whether the site is well designed. I'm not using any kind of connection pool. My max used connections have only been as high as 10 and are usually about 3-5. Mysql has been up for 5 days and 40 hours and has processed 1061679 questions. The "top" program shows that mysql has used about 48 minutes of cpu time in those 5 days. I would like to know when is the right time to start using a connection pool, is it when your max used connections starts getting too high?

FYI :
1) my data for comparison
Uptime: 14 days 16 hours 59 min 58 sec
CPU consumed : 7 hours, 2 minutes, 2 seconds
(unless I'm mistaking days for hours, anyway the tazsk manager shows 7:02:02 - now 7:02:10 so it mus be in seconds after all :D )

2) you may look in winmysqladmin's first tab (or issue the "status;" request in mySql) that tells you more :

Uptime: 14 days 16 hours 59 min 58 sec
Threads: 102
Questions: 12064419
Slow queries: 30
Opens: 20248
Flush tables: 1
Open tables: 40
Queries per second avg: 9.494

3) I would recommend to consider there is a problem only when the response times begin to crumble, or the max_connection is reached regularly (leading to "too many requests" error in the front-end, like PHP
