Hello all, I've this laptop with Windows XP SP2 installed and had NOD32 antivirus installed on it. Security Center reported that "%1 reports that its turned". I was wondering why this is so and what %1 means. Recently, I uninstalled NOD32 and installed Mcafee Antivirus but Security Center still reports "%1 reports that its turned". How would I have security center detect my Mcafee Antivirus program. I've surfed the net to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

when the message pops up, switch to the "task manager", select the open window (it should be in the list", click "go to process" (right click) search in regedit and Ctrl-F for that executable name in registry, probably in RunOnce or Run ; if found, OK, delete. kill the process. restart to test. repeat if needed (this is windows, after all ;-) if process not found in registry, then it's time for the real trouble. come back with results regards

Thanks VGR. However, I've done all these checks: Task Manager, Registry but after the uninstall of NOD32, no traces of it exists in the registry and no Task manager process of such running. I followed all these well.

it could be a service then... try the services management console and stop all "exotic" services until the faulty executable disappears from task manager's process list. BTW, the '%1' in the message should contain the executable/service name. It's a bug that it shows '%1'. It may also indicate there's kind of a DOS console process somewhere because %1 is typically a DOS thing to indicate the second parameter in argv (%0 is the executable name, thus %1 is the first "useful" argument).

You are right VGR. However, I did that check by installing NOD32 again and noticing the service name. After initiating uninstallation, I checked services.msc again and rightfully did not find the process again. I've checked all other service names but none related to NOD32. I would agree with you that there might be a bug (may be in the Service Center or some where) cos %1 at first thought points to a parameter arguement.
