HI Experts ,

i am running SQL Server 2000 on my machine , i have SQL installed on one other machine it was using my SQL installed on the main machine as the main DB . everythng was working fine and smoothly.

till one day it stopped working and i am no longer able to access my main Database via this SQL installed on the other machine it gives me the error msg:

SQL Server 2000 Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1, Line
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

i am totally clueless on this one plz help me out :(

first things that come to my mind :
1) you lost your IP/network connectivity to the main server. Try to PING it from the secondary machine.

2) your SQL-Server/MSDE/TDSlib installation on the secondary machine is broken. Try to connect in the Console using isql

3) someone changed the password on the main machine for the user you use from the secondary (or deleted the account altogether)
Check the account on the main SQL-Server instance

4) someone (or an automatic update) did install or reconfigure a firewall on the main server that blocks your client from connection on the SQL-Server port (1433 from memory)
You should see an alert when trying to remotely connect. Turn the FW off for testing purposes.

5) the SQL-Server on the main machine stopped responding (most probable cause : no room left on disk device holding the journals, the infamous "transaction log" mainly)
