Hello to all experts.

1. I bought a Sony 128Mb USB MicroVault flash drive and formatted it with an iformat.exe program that came in the CD with the drive only to discover that the size fell from 124Mb to 31mb. Can the flash drive be restored to its original 124Mb and HOW PLEASE?[/FONT]

Hello, I think that as soon as the drive is "mounted" under Windows (ie, it has a drive letter), you can simply do FORMAT or right-click/format it to its default format.

try to see its properties for a start. I would be surprised it is reported as 31 MB ;-)

RE: 128Mb flash Drive Problems

I've been using it for over a month now on various PCs and Windows has been reporting 31Mb. It has never shown anything apart from
31Mb. Is it a firmware problem?

Hello Mr. vincent Graux. Its Elijah. Thanks for all the help you've rendered me afore (especially with my PC and Qbasic). Stay well.

It could be the disk being defective, but first try some things :

1) You need to format the drive via the Computer Management Console (Control Panel / Administrative Tools).

Select Disk Management and format via there.

2) The size reported by Windows is not related to the formatting but is a part of the drive parameter information which cannot be modified by the end-user. If it's wrong, it means that the drive itself is corrupted.

3) The problem could be that you formatted it as fat32 when it should be CDFS. - Hence the misreading of the filesize.

4) in this eventuality, go to the "disk management" of windows as said above (or use Partition Magic or the like), Right Click the USB Drive on the bottom right. Choose delete partion. Check the drive size reported now. Then right click again and it will let you format and repartion the drive.

5) If everything fails so far, here is a link to a nice USB format tool click here but you could also use CompuApps OnBelay (search it on download.com) or KillDisk

6) if you reached this point, your USB drive is probably defective : return it to seller :D

Good luck.

Sir,

ur suggestion was right about the flash drive. Thanks very much.
Though it didn\'t work out as expected (the flash has a dorted firmware revision).
