Bonjour Sir, How is work? Trust God is on ur side. Had this stubborn problem recently. I have not had it prior 2 now bcos I had used 2 different network adapter types. I connected two systems that were part of a LAN on a cafe (cafe though is now not functioning) using a crossover cable. Set them to workgroup BIZCENTER and IP addresses manually configured on both as 192.168.0.1(John) and 192.168.0.2.(Amos) (Both systems complained at this stage probably bcos they had thesame network adapter type - SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter). At last, they started seeing each other, reverting the IP addresses to the above anytime I changed them, the changing done bcos they weren't seeing each other. Now, with the above IP address, they see each other; pinging any from any replies well but I tried the net view command and this was its reply. ===================== input (from 192.168.0.1) : net view \\192.168.0.2 another input (from 192.168.0.1): net view \\AMOS output: System error 53 has occured. the netwrok path was not found. ==================== Was afraid but decided 2 share folders, a printer and a scanner. Have set the printer on Amos to be shared with share name as CanonLAS. Going to John to access CanonLAS shouts the prompt below Error: ============================================= Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was types incorrectly or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server. for more information, click help. ============================================ No printer shared. Can't proceed to share the scanner (just afraid). This might be pretty bad step. The last was that I opened Local Security Policy and entered User right assignments. Located the Policy DENY ACCESS TO THIS COMPUTER FROM THE NETWORK and changed its value from an object value SUPPORT_388945a0 to nothing (just removed it). After this, tried everything again but still thesame prompt. Have the following other settings comp1: 192.168.0.1 => John firewalled. Win XP sp2 comp2: 192.168.0.2 => Amos firewalled. Win xp sp1 Sir, what would you advice me to do? Just to remind you dat I was really impressed trying out open office and have decided to use it. Works really great and a good replacement for MicroSlop Word. Aurevoir. |

| have you installed/added the NetBEUI protocol on each card ? This is necessary for "Windows networking", including "network neightborhood" recognition about the workgroup you specified. One side note : when I encounter such problems, and the pinging via IP does work but not the rest (shared directories, printers, access by \\COMPUTERNAME etc), I use FTP to transfer data between the two machines, having installed War Ftpd on one machine (namely "server") and an FTP client on the other one (namely "slave") this is a good tip IMHO The firewall alert should come up ONCE, when the client tries to use port 22/23 on the server. Otherwise, and once connection is accepted for good, you should have no problem transferring files. good luck |
