easy, albeit strange : it seems that your "windows installer" (msiexec.exe) isn't on par with the version required by the java JRE .msi package. Strange, as XP SP1 is quite recent, and also because I've been able to install this JRE on a Win2K SP4 machine with no particular upgrade of the msiexec.exe. Ok. Now go to this M$ KB page and try to download the "latest" MSI installer revision. You could also check first which version you currently have installed, as shown by the properties (right-click) of the file %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe You ***may*** also have problems, not because of the msiexec version, but because of the MDAC 2.7 requirement. This is usually mentioned in the error message during install of the msi package. MSI has always been a pain in the neck. If you can't get it to work for you, try to install from .exe or .zip package in stead.

and a caveat : NEVER delete any .msi file, or you won't be able to undelete the application ;-)) (see one old question of mine about this)

Hello Sir, I've downloaded the newest windows installer from the link provided and installed it but on double-clicking JDK 1.5.0 installer, it later prompted that "please verify that the windows installer is a valid one". I'm very sure windows unable to run the installer it created in the Application/data folder. Don't know where 2 go 4rm here. Ur blessed.

ok. The /msi file you downloaded seems broken. Try again after having deleted it. This may happen ***once in a while*** when downloading packages from the 'Net. It's pretty rare though. If it came from a CD, it would be surprising. One other little probability : you downloaded a virus-infected file and the MSI installer chokes anyway. One last option is that the MSI installer you downloaded from "latest revision" came broken to your hard drive. You may try to uninstall (if it doesn't succeed, it's a confirmation), then install it again from a new fresh file. All possibilities are equally rare. Keep us informed and good luck
