Bonjour Monsieur,
I have 2 problems

1.
I installed Avast antivirus on a system hit with worms. Now working well but
problem updating system from Win xp1 to sp2. it gives d following error

win sp2 error:
the core system (kernel) file is not a Microsoft windows file.

what do you advice?

2. On my Hp nx6310 laptop dat i have been using well now, When I right-click on drive c or my Rundisk flash drive, the first two menu items dat appear are strange. click them opens the folder in a new window.
Already the following settings aren't affected
--- open folders in new windows Unchecked

Is there a cause for alarm? what do you advice?

Ur blessed Man

I have absolutely no clue at all. Deactivate Avast before upgrading to SP2. Deactivate firewall too. (if you use it !!! ;-)

Hello

I later discovered dat the boot.ini file had the /kernel switches added to it. The kernel file wasn't bad at all. Third party programs usually edit this file some how.

So I opened d boot.ini file (4rm desktop--> Right-click My computer-> properties -> Advanced Options -> Start up and recovery -> Edit)
and removed the /kernel switches.

After this, Upgrade was made successfully.

Hello VGR,

Concerning the second problem I asked about the strange menu items, I later discovered dat it was due to some intrusion of some sort of a particular file into my system. These files r autorun.xxx files (about 13 in number), replicating in system32 folder and root of drive c: (particularly) with other drives.

on checking the registry ,following key was altered by clicking any of the strange menu items followeed by replication

from userinit to userinit,autorun.bat

Lately, I designed a little program to solve the problem and hope to post it soon.

Thanks.
