lotus notes email : how to access it without the proprietary client ? (either the windows application to install locally on the PC, or the webmail component also to be pre-installed in the PC as a browser plugin - moreover, I think this is an ActiveX ... no comment!) is there a cross-platform, portable way of reading email (at least), and why not the (other) NSF databases ? write emails ? I found the POP3/IMAP client on this site which enables email R/W, but I wonder how to do it for Lotus Notes... thanks for the help |

| Lotus databases are securely encrypted and generally require an ID file to decrypt, you can link to them through ODBC drivers if your Domino server is setup for this but it rarely is as this defeats the whole purpose of using Lotus ie - replication and high security. I use a very extensive Lotus system in my role and we have WebMail - this is not an ActiveX, it is Java based (and hence pig slow). It actually works A LOT better in firefox than IE so you should be able to use this pretty much anywhere. HOWEVER, this depends on have a web mail server as part of (or more often as a side server) to your Domino server. Essentially, if the system was setup to do some of what you are looking for, it really would be a waste to use Lotus at all. Email side just depends on your system setup - talk to your Domino admin. |
